TOOTH EXTRACTIONS IN LA MARQUE, TEXAS

Getting a tooth pulled might not be at the top of your list of fun things to do, but sometimes it’s necessary. Whether you’re getting your wisdom teeth removed or you have a tooth that’s decayed beyond repair, our team at La Marque Family Dentistry is here to help.

Why Might I Need an Extraction?

There are a few different reasons why you might need an extraction. The most common reason is because your tooth is too damaged from decay to be saved with a filling or other type of dental work. Other reasons for extractions include crowding (when there are too many teeth in your mouth), impacted teeth (teeth that have failed to erupt through the gumline), or infection.

What Should I Expect Before My Extraction?

Before your extraction, our team will go over all of the risks and benefits with you so that you can make an informed decision about whether or not to proceed with the procedure. Once you’ve decided to move forward, we’ll take some X-rays of the affected area so that we can get a better idea of what we’re dealing with. We may also prescribe antibiotics if there is any concern about infection.

What Happens During the Extraction Procedure?

The first thing our team will do is numb the area around your tooth using local anesthesia. Once you’re numb, we’ll make an incision in your gums and then gently rock the tooth back and forth until it comes loose. In some cases, we may need to remove the tooth in sections. Once the tooth is out, we’ll clean up the socket and place gauze over the area to help control any bleeding.

Extractions are typically performed using local anesthesia, which numbs the area around your tooth. However, if you’re having multiple teeth extracted or if you have a fear of needles, we can provide sedation options as well. Just let us know and we’ll be happy to discuss your options with you.

We offer several different types of sedation: inhaled minimal sedation ( nitrous oxide or “laughing gas”), oral sedation (a pill taken before your appointment), and intravenous (IV) sedation (administered through a small needle in your arm). With IV sedation, you will likely remain awake during the procedure but will be in a deeply relaxed state and won’t remember much about what happened afterwards.

What Should I Expect After My Extraction?

After your extraction, it’s important to follow our team’s instructions for at-home care. This usually involves taking it easy for 24-48 hours and eating soft foods while avoiding straws and smoking. We’ll also give you specific instructions on how often to change your gauze and what type of pain medication you can take if necessary. It’s normal to experience some discomfort after your extraction, but following our post-operative instructions will help ensure a speedy recovery.

What is the average cost of a tooth extraction in La Marque, Texas?

There are different factors that determine the overall cost of a tooth extraction because it all depends on which tooth is being extracted, the difficulty of the extraction and if your insurance covers a portion or the total amount of treatment. In order to get an accurate price on an extraction it’s best to visit our office for an evaluation.
